A Marketer Learning How To Code

What drives people to learn a new skill and get out of the comfort zone? There are many excuses that humans can give for themselves to don’t take the first — or second — step. To ask for a change in their lives without really meaning it, to complain or and to blame others about their failures is easier.

Since the pandemic hit in 2020, I’m seeing so many friends, in different career levels, struggling. It showed me how life is unpredictable. Everyone always says to think outside the box but what does this really mean? For me, at this moment in my life, it is to make decisions and follow a path different from others. Often, people stop studying after graduating from formal education and one of my life goals is the opposite, is to keep studying and learning new skills.

My background is in Advertising and Propaganda. For many years, I worked in advertising agencies as an offline media buyer and when social media started to get popular, I knew that I needed to make a switch in my career. I started an MBA in Digital Marketing with an emphasis in Neuromarketing and the course blew my mind and changed my life. Doing this MBA was one of the best decisions that I ever made.

I got a job opportunity as a digital marketing trainee in the U.S. and after the contract was over, I got hired and I’m currently working with this company as a digital marketing consultant. Again, there is no turning back for technology so the more tech skills I gain the better, this is one of the reasons why I choose to start a Software Engineering Bootcamp.

I’m still not sure if I’m switching my career at the end of the course or if I will combine this skill with my Marketing knowledge. Either way, learning coding will bring me benefits even if I don’t work with it. I’ll have a unique set of skills that will boost my professional career.
